“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

-Margaret Mead

OUR GOALS

We are Teton Valley, Idaho and Teton County, Wyoming citizens and citizens from across the nation who want Grand Targhee to stay within its present boundaries so that resort growth does not push Teton Valley into an unsustainable and inequitable future.
  • To preserve the public lands surrounding Grand Targhee for wildlife, star-filled skies and diverse recreation for all.
  • To maintain the current character of Teton Valley, so that it does not become yet another “destination resort” town destroyed by industrial tourism.
  • To ensure Teton Valley, Idaho continues to be a diverse, rural, and agricultural place where low and middle income people can live and work at the foot of the iconic Teton Range.

Thoughts from Teton Valley Residents

  • David Susong
From Teton Valley, the walls of Teton Canyon draw the eye upward toward the wilderness, toward Table Mountain, and to Mount Owen, and the Grand, Middle and South Tetons towering above.  Teton Canyon is the gateway visually and physically into the heart of the Teton Range. Without the Canyon providing the visual path, the signature western skyline of Tetons would be diminished, and appear more distant and remote from the Valley below.

Folks traveling in the Wilderness and on some of the most popular trails on the west side of the Tetons (South Fork, North Fork, Devils Stairs, and Face Trails of Teton Canyon) would have their views degraded by three chairlifts, ski trails, and access roads if the proposed South Bowl expansion gets approved by the USFS. With climate change, this south facing area could be unskiable in 30 years. The ridge between South Leigh Canyon and North Fork of Teton Canyon is a very special place. Development in this area will detract greatly from the wild and scenic nature of the canyon, which contributes to the quality of life and scenic tourism value of the region. Grand Targhee Resort should not invade this natural area and leave an irreversible scar.

The 2020/2021 ski season has already brought record breaking crowds to Grand Targhee. Think about what will happen to this area if plans to expand and become another Vail, Jackson Hole, or Aspen are implemented. I fear that we will lose more than just skiing privileges - we will lose our quiet and simple way of life Teton Valley is known for and appreciated by so many.
